Good Bye Camping

Now that summer is pretty much gone and Fall is in the air camping season is over for us. Although our first family trip was a little rough, we have gone several times since and have really grown to love Colorado camping.

We hiked a really long time to get to this so-called waterfall. Camping in Yosemite as a kid made this seem like a joke.

Thank goodness for Baby Bjorns.

Four Mile Fire

The Four Mile Canyon Fire just west of Boulder thankfully is supposed to be fully contained by tonight. That doesn't change the fact that many have lost their homes which just breaks my heart. Saturday night I had an opportunity to volunteer at the donation center for the fire where I helped many others sort through piles and piles of donations. I was able to see first hand and was so touched by the generosity of the people of Boulder. For the five hours I was there so many cars and trucks dropped off bags and bags of clothing and household items. Many of the donated items were brand new. It makes me feel proud to be a part of such a beautiful community like Boulder where people care about their neighbors in need. I know there is a long struggle ahead for the victims of this fire, but I hope that they can feel the love and support of those around them and that this will help them feel some peace.

Mini Machine

While growing up my mom continuously offered to teach me how to sew. I was stupid and never took her up on this generous offer. She warned me that I would one day regret it, and today is that day. I wish I knew how to sew. I think I'm going to try to learn, but I don't really know where to start... What is a good machine? What is an easy but pretty first time project? Where does one go to buy fun fabrics? One idea I have so far is to purchase this adorable little sewing machine as my starter from Urban Outfitters. My only worry is that it may be more cute than practical. Any advice on sewing/sewing machines/fabrics would be greatly appreciated:)

Best Way to Wake Up

The other day I had one of those mornings where I really wanted to sleep in. Rick is such a sweetheart and watched Adelaide while I took a little snooze. Eventually I woke up to some beautiful guitar tunes and giggles in the next room.

Never gets old.

Say Cheese

I recently read Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and absolutely loved it. One of the many things she inspired me to try was to make my own cheese. So I ordered myself a mozzarella cheese-making kit recently and gave it a shot. It is really tasty and I'm excited to keep making more!

I know it is not perfectly smooth and beautiful, but I'm new to this.

The Unicorn Book

My Dad is very creative and made Adelaide this custom "Unicorn Book" as a gift. He illustrated the whole thing and also recorded this accompanying song:

Taffy Time

Adelaide is so quick these days, if I am not paying attention to her every single second she gets into some mischief.

Today she found some favor bags from her birthday and enjoyed her first salt water taffy. Can't believe she can get those wrappers off all by herself.

Guilty but unashamed:)
