Exploring Arizona

Biking in Flagstaff

2011-08-10 19.14.01

We are finding away around Flag pretty good these days... we discovered a beautiful bike trail that we really love and also went to Sedona for a day trip last weekend. We thought it would be fun to get out, explore and go on a little bike ride there. We kinda forgot about how everywhere else in Arizona is ridiculously hot during the summer and as we sat in traffic to park and realized that the temperature was 112 degrees we started to regret our decision to travel there. Our bike ride lasted about ten minutes (Sedona does not have a very bike friendly downtown). We locked up our bikes and walked around to check out the shops and restaurants, trying always to walk under the sidewalk misters. All in all, I think we lasted about an hour in Sedona (we are huge babies) and we headed home. We decided we'll check out Sedona again in the Winter.

Fourth of July

We had such a great time on the Fourth of July spending time with Rick's family at Flathead Lake in Montana. It was so beautiful and we enjoyed going out on the boat, relaxing, playing polish rummy, yummy food, amazing fireworks, volleyball, surfing behind the boat, going down the waterslide, and watching all the boys shave their heads (except for Rick, luckily). We hope we can make it again next summer!

Tahoe!

A few weeks ago Adelaide and I were able to spend a week in Tahoe with my family. We missed Rick and Steven & Jamie's fam, but it was a great time full of crawdad fishing, swimming, eating way too much food, Eric teaching Adelaide to play video games, Adelaide x2 bonding, organizing our Aussie sea shells, a lot of talk about gambling (next trip for reals!), a drive around the lake, the discovery that the amusement part on south shore is sadly closed, good times at the sun club, potato bombs, John Denver & Kenny Chesney, Grandpa teaching Adelaide what a scorpion says ("gotcha"), exploring emerald bay, almost hiking Mt. Rose (can't believe there is still snow), PIT games and just relaxing. I have such fond childhood memories of Tahoe and it still never disappoints.... there is nothing better than spending time with family in the beautiful California sunshine.

20 Weeks

I can't believe I am already half way through this pregnancy! I seriously feel like time is flying by but I'm enjoying every minute of it. From the kicks I can already tell that this baby is a little gentler than Adelaide. She would kick in spurts really aggressively while this baby gives more gentle kicks all throughout the day. We just had the 20 week ultrasound and it was so fun to watch the baby give us a little show. He kept bringing his hands up to his mouth and kicking and punching and at one point he even did a slow little back flip trick causing the ultrasound technician to call him "yoga baby." I know I just referred to the baby as a he, but that is just because saying "it" over and over gets a little annoying. We still don't know the baby's gender, when they were checking out down there they had Rick and I look away and chat. We have brainstormed a few names though; for a boy we like Cash (it is a family name on Rick's side of the family) or Bentley, and for a girl we like Caroline or Clementine. Any thoughts?

Sorry these are a little blurry, they are taken from our phones... I really should learn how to use our scanner.

Here are a couple belly pictures of me at 20 weeks. I have the best husband ever who kept Adelaide for five days while I went back to San Diego for my sister's graduation and to spend time with family. It was a great trip made up of multiple breakfast burritos, lots of giggle fests, a relaxing bed and breakfast stay, planking sessions and trips to the beach.

Aimee's Visit

I have been absent from my blog for a little while because I was busy with an old friend visiting from Australia. In college I did an exchange program in Perth and lived with a family that had 5 very energetic kids. They are the cutest family ever and I'm so glad I got to know them during my time abroad. I think of them as my Australian family. One of the daughters, Aimee, who is now 15, came to visit me for two and half weeks. We had a great time exploring Boulder and Denver and took a road trip out to Utah for a weekend. Her mom Carrie also came out for a couple days. We miss them and their cute accents and slang now that they are gone.

September 2010 012
We went to the Hammonds Candy factory in Denver where we were treated to fresh, warm lollipops. Adelaide loved them so much she stole Aimee's and consequently became a big sticky mess.

September 2010 023
I took Aimee to the farmer's market where we ate yummy lunches. On the way out the police were very forcefully waking up a homeless man trying to sleep and I think it kind of freaked Aimee out. She had never seen a homeless person in her life until coming here.

September 2010 022
We played rock band at the Wittwers and Aimee got into it. She especially loved doing the song "Here Comes the Sun" and she convinced us all to play it over and over again.

Aimee's Visit 003
Aimee and I got some much needed pedicures.

Aimee's Visit 021
Aimee stated pretty early on that "You Americans are obsessed with pumpkins!" I never really noticed this until she said it, but seriously look around- pumpkins are everywhere in the fall! I am guilty as I have pumpkin soap, pumpkin candles, pumpkin lights, pumpkin tea towels, and a pumpkin kitchen mat. So of course, I took Aimee to a pumpkin patch.

Aimee's Visit 014
We had a cheesemaking class at church and I don't know if Aimee was very interested in the cheese aspect, but she loved holding this baby!

Aimee's Visit 041
Aimee really loves Harry Potter. Someone drew this with chalk outside the Boulder library.

September 2010 028
We took Aimee and a friend Meghin to the Rockies vs. Giants game. I was obviously rooting for the Giants and was sad that they lost but it was still such an awesome game.

Aimee's Visit 056
We planned a weekend road trip to Utah so we could show Aimee Salt Lake City and BYU and visit with my brother and very pregnant sister in law Rachel.

Aimee's Visit 073
Aimee, me, Emily and Rachel after the LDS General Conference.

Aimee's Visit 089
Aimee, me , my cousin Jared and his wife Kat.

Aimee's Visit 087
Kevin, Penny the bird, me, Aimee and Rachel. Aimee loved the way that Rach talked and couldn't stop talking about how Rachel reminded her of Jamie Lynn Spears.

Aimee's Visit 101
At the mall I tried to warn Carrie about the pushy sales people but we still got trapped. The straightener was amazing though.

Aimee's Visit 102
Of course they had to enjoy the magic of Love Sacs while they were here.

Aimee's Visit 103
Aimee and I went shopping A LOT while she was here. I kept thinking, "wow, this girl can shop," but once Carrie came I realized where she got it from! Going shopping with these two was the most fun I've ever had and I didn't even buy anything. They got excited about everything and just went crazy as you can see. So Fun.

Aimee's Visit 107
Exhausted after a long day of shopping. We got to the shopping center around 3 and didn't leave until after 8.

Aimee's Visit 109
Adelaide loved Carrie and Aimee and is so bored with me now that her two new friends are gone! Thanks for visiting Carrie and Aimee!

Good Bye Camping

Now that summer is pretty much gone and Fall is in the air camping season is over for us. Although our first family trip was a little rough, we have gone several times since and have really grown to love Colorado camping.

And this.

We hiked a really long time to get to this so-called waterfall. Camping in Yosemite as a kid made this seem like a joke.
