Post Baby Dates

Before we had kids Rick and I basically went on dates every night... bikeriding on the boardwalk, eating out at fun restaurants, hanging out at the beach and getting together with friends. After Adelaide was born we didn't really feel the need to go out on too many dates because she slept a lot and we were just so in love with being new parents that hanging out all three of us was just fine most of the time. I think our first date after her birth was going to the movie Avatar (with Rick's brother Nick) while Rick's dad and Janet babysat.

Now that we have two babies I am definitely feeling the need for more date nights. Not that I don't love spending time the four of us, but I just want a little more balance in my life. Over Christmas Rick and I went out to breakfast while Rick's mom and Gerry watched our kids. It was awesome to just sit and talk with each other without being distracted by dirty diapers or Adelaide's hilarious and high maintenance demands.

I think we need to go out more often- it's great to reconnect and I always miss my kids when I'm away, giving me a better appreciation for them when I get home. Do you also feel the need for regular date nights? How often do you go out? What are your favorite things to do and places to go?

It was a cute little place that prides itself in using sustainable and local ingredients as much as possible.

We have date night (in or out) every Friday, and we put the kids to bed at Suzi's house and play girls-against-boys card games almost every Saturday. We try to go out at least once a month, sometimes twice. There's not a ton to do here, though. We usually get dinner or frozen yogurt (or both). Sometimes we go shopping (like at Target even) and just enjoy being by ourselves. We went out almost every day while we stayed with your parents, like for lunch dates or whatever, because they kept offering to watch the kids! Fabulous!

And we always, always, always go away for a night or two once a year, usually in the springtime. Our last trip was for 2 nights when Charlie was 3 months old. I'd saved up TONS of milk in the freezer and he was good to go. Haha. The Pearsons took our kids, and then they did a weekend later in the year and we took theirs. It was WONDERFUL. I recommend it.
